This was the introduction on Danish National Radio given by a Music journalist recently, and in many ways it sums up beautifully his career so far. Since 2002 Sune Hjerrild has sung in both Opera and Concert halls in most parts of the World, and where ever he goes he is well received by his audience and well respected by his colleagues.

Sune Hjerrild Graduated in 2002 after 8 years of study, first at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, and later from the Royal Danish Academy of Opera in Copenhagen with highest merit. In 2003 he had the honour of being selected as the first Dane ever to the prestigious Operalia Placido Domingo World Opera Contest. He made himself well noticed by the jury for his Mozart repertoire, and got as far as the semi final.Also in 2005 Sune Hjerrild was selected among hundreds of hopeful singers to sing in the final rounds of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. This led to numerous international engagements for instance he sang the role of Tamino in the Magic flute at the official Opening production of the Megaron Opera house in Athens conducted by Sir Neville Marriner . The production was staged by the World renowned stage director Michael Hampe. Later he sang the role with the Rome Symphony Orchestra in the Vatican Hall of Conciliation, and in many other occasions. Other roles in the Mozart repertoire essential to his career are Belmonte in the Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Idomeneo (his international debut role in France) and Soliman in Zaide performed at the Mozart Festival in La Coruña in a new production by Graham Vick. In 2012 he is engaged to sing Don Ottavio at the Danish National Opera.In 2008 Sune Hjerrild had a successful debut as Duca in Rigoletto at the Danish National Opera. Later he returned to sing Alfredo in La Traviata and Edmondo in Manon Lescaut. Other essential roles are Rodolfo in La Boheme and from the Italian bel canto repertoire are Tebaldo from I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Nemorino from The Elixir of love, and more. Sune Hjerrild also sung in smaller parts like Cassio in Othello, Maintop in Billy Bud, Gastone in La Traviata, and Jaquino in Beethovens Fidelio. This when Herbert Blomsted hand picked him, to sing the role in Leipzig in 2006. Sune Hjerrild is also frequently used in concert productions all over the World. Mainly in Scandinavia, and Europe, but he has performed in both the US, in Australia and in Singapore (Faust in Berlioz La Damnation de Faust with The Singapore Symphony Orchestra.)Further more he sang tenor solo in Britten's Serenade at the prestigious music festival at the Grand Canaries and in Tenerife, performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Festival in New York, at the famous Sacred Music festival at Monréale in Sicily, at The Baltic Sea Festival, and at the Moscow Easter festival in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall.In Italy should be mentioned successful performances of Handels Messiah in the Vattican Concert Hall in Rome, Mendelssohn's Das Paradis und die Peri in Napoli with Sir Jeffrey Tate, and primary solo tenor in Mendelssohn's Elijah with RAI in Torino under the Baton of Hans-Jörg Albricht (who replaced Jeffrey Tate.) Just to mention a few he has performed with the The Symphony Orchestra of Rome, Orchestra Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, and Orchestra Symphonico di Palermo. In Germany with Das Gewandthaus Orchester in Leipzig, ZBF Symphonics in Köln, The Symphony Orchestra in Hof. Also in Holland and Spain he has performed with The Dutch Symphony Orchestra. In Scandinavia he has performed at numerous occasions with, The Tivoli Symphonic Orchestra in Copenhagen and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and chorus. Also with he performed in Sweden with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra and with The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.During the course of his career Sune Hjerrild has sung with important conductors like Sir Neville Marriner, Jeffrey Tate, Matthew Best, Ion Marin, Friedrich Haider, Manfred Honeck, Gerd Albrecht, Hans-Jörg Albricht, Herbert Blomstedt, Josef Bychkov, Christian Badea, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Guy Condette, Janos Acs, Francesco La Vecchia, and many more.He has sung in productions at the Opera in Sidney, Megaron in Athens, Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, Opera de Limoges, Opera Lyrique de Tourcoing (when Lille was EU City of culture in 2004), the Opera houses in Leipzig and Wuppertal, The Royal Opera in Copenhagen, and many more. He has participated in many CD recordings. For one in Berlioz Lelio that was released in 2007 on the label Chandros, and recently with a circle of songs with poems of the famous Danish poet I.P.
